About the Caricature Artist, Edd Aragon
Edd (short for Eduardo) Aragon, 54, is an Australian born in the Philippines and arrived in Australia in 1979. A famous newspaper editorial & comic strip cartoonist back in Manila, Edd never forgot his mission and has also become a well-known newspaper cartoonist in this country, his caricatures and illustrative drawings gracing Australia’s major newspapers, e.g. Sydney Morning Herald (1989-current), The Australian and The Daily Telegraph (1979-1989), plus other widely-circulated Austral-Asian magazines and financial weeklies.

For his skilful renditions of op-editorial and illustrative drawings, Edd has been awarded 4 major Stanley award trophies for best caricaturist and best illustrator between 1988 to 1993.

Edd, in principle, then retired from these annual competitions and busied himself in teaching and organizing life drawing lessons, painting and sculpture; albeit without compromising his informal music interests in singing, harmonica, piano/keyboards and bass guitar.

"In drawing caricatures, whether live or from available photographs,
I focus at once on the emanating smile of the subject then quickly shifting to the “gaze” (as inspired by da Vinci). Really it’s not just merely the eyes that are drawn. Our pair of eyes work together to achieve a peripheral vision. To translate in Life, we have Love to work with to be able to face bigger challenges in far broader horizons. It is all worthwhile. "

"Generally I don’t clutter the drawings with details but I do enjoy doing clouds to give the subject a cool, atmospheric background. Like life, we need our own space to be free and need not be encumbered with smaller problems. Soon as the sun rises up, no matter how tired or lacking in sleep, I prefer to have a good smiling attitude because I know at the end of the day I would have surely acquired a lot of positive energies born out of this attitude."
